Japanese Laurel Wood

This small lidded container was turned by Rafe from Japanese Laurel gathered at Park & Tilford Gardens in North Vancouver.

It’s a simple, functional piece, but what makes it special is how the grain flows continuously from the base into the lid. The wood was kept from the same piece so that when closed, the pattern lines up as one.

The shape sits comfortably in the hand and works well for small, everyday things like jewellery, herbs, or simply as an object to keep on a shelf.

Finished with food-grade polymerized linseed oil and pure, locally sourced 100% beeswax from BC, bringing out the natural warmth of the wood while keeping it safe and usable.

Each piece is one of a kind, shaped by the wood itself and the place it came from.
